I have spent a little time using the DK5 and have a few comments. This is in addition to the the first diary in the beta site but more detail.

The image box above this should be set so it opens as minimized. I have a high speed connection using firefox so I don’t see the load issues other have seen. Yes 50mb is fast.

Already said many times — too much white space! Do something!

No link to the hidden comments from the front page. There should be.

If I go to a hidden comment, there is no total of the number of users who have HR’d the comment. Only on the hidden comment page. And there is no list of users who have HR’d the comment! Great way to hide sock puppets!

It is annoying to have the header for Community spotlight and Recommend stay at the top. I know where I am. I don’t need to be reminded. ( I have a large screen so space is not an issue)

It is also way harder to scroll through these two sections. In DK4, I could just click on the “next” button to see the next list of in the section. This was very useful at the end of the day when I didn’t check in a few time. Now I have to scroll through a page after page to see what is new.

If I have read a diary already, it doesn’t change appearance. Now I have to look at the comment count.

When I started writing this diary, it started to place a superscript “th” that I wasn’t able to cancel.

The site is not consistent in terms of appearance. If I go to different pages, it is different from the front page. Almost as if is those were still in DK4 mode.

As for comments, the first line should be bold. Annoying to have to select and use the H tag.

reply/ star /flag are too close together. And what is the star mean? We are recommending, not starring the comment.

I tried to copy one of the tags on a diary, and can’t. ( left hand side)

I haven’t commented much so I still don’t have an opinion as other have. The popups for new comments are annoying!

There was not enough thought into the design of DK5. Sorry, but a poor design that needs major changes.
